Castration

Castrating Calves.jpg
Older Calves

We now have a number of options available for the castration of older animals.

Including a callicrate high tension bander, which can be used to castrate bulls up to two years of age.  High tension banding (by a veterinarian using local anaesthetic), is a quick, humane way of castrating older animals, with less risk of excess bleeding, or infection when compared to surgical castration.

Cost is dependent on numbers but is generally cheaper than surgical castration.  We also have an XL bander, which is ideal of animals 3-6 months of age.

Remember, standard rubber rings should not be used on calves over three months of age.  We have plenty of cases every year where the blood supply is not cut off, resulting in a very painful infection, that is expensive to fix, and can result in the death of the calf.
