Through our vets commitment and on-going studies, our clients (and their owners) are assured a higher level of care.  A number of our vets have developed areas of special interest so our companion animals receive comprehensive medical and surgical care from a team who have the latest equipment and technology at their fingertips, all housed within modern facilities.

Meet our Beachlands vet team
Sarah Tutt Dr Sarah Tutt BVSC

Sarah spent time working as a Vet in both Australia and the United Kingdom before finally settling back in New Zealand with her family.  Sarah joined the Franklin Vets team in 2012 at the Beachlands clinic and has a passion for all areas of companion animal medicine.  

She is also the proud parent of an energetic cat called Dusty, who was adopted as a stray from the Franklin Vets Papakura clinic.

After graduating Andrea spent some of her practical years in the United Kingdom locuming before returning to New Zealand to care for companion animals in the Franklin area.  

Andrea has held a passion to work within the companion animal healthcare sector from the early stages of her career and has since become a long standing, respected member of the Franklin Vets team.

Dr Phil Macleod BVSc MANZCVS (Small Animal Medicine)

Phil graduated from Massey University in 1989 and after some years in mixed and small animal practice joined Franklin Vets as a small animal veterinarian at the Papakura clinic in 1995.   He became a Director of the Practice in 2003.   Phil has developed special interest in the areas of small animal medicine and ultra-sonography and gained membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 1999.  

Family and the occasional triathlon take up his spare time.

Dr Victoria Hill BVSc 

After graduating from Massey University, Victoria worked in Nelson before moving to the UK to enhance her experience with Companion Animals.  Victoria likes all aspects of companion animal practice, with a particular interest in internal medicine; but she really enjoys the challenge of solving complex medical issues. 
Victoria and her cat like to spend time sitting in the sun with a crisp white wine.

Dr Karli Bowler
Dr Karli Bowler-Houston BVSc 

Karli has a special interest in nutrition and rehabilitation and studied Canine Rehabilitation through the University of Tennesee.  She loves helping animals feel better by creating exercise programs and using hands on therapy for those who suffer with decreased mobility, arthritis, neurological issues or post surgical patients.

When not at work Karli enjoys running and doing agility with her dog Mowgli.

Mary-Beth is passionate about all aspects of companion animal care and has a particular interest in clinical pathology and nutrition.
In her spare time Mary-Beth enjoys birdwatching and spending time with family and friends in the Marlborough Sounds.


Dr Laura Schwerdtfeger BVSc BSc


Laura graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science.  Previous to this degree she completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Physiology and Zoology.  Her special interests within the veterinary industry include large animal internal medicine and surgery.
Outside of work some of Laura’s hobbies include snowboarding, travelling, playing guitar, fishing and going to music festivals overseas.

Franklin Vets 0186-805-516-909 Dr Nick Twyford BVSc MANZCVS (Medicine of Dogs)

Nick started with Franklin Vets in 1982, becoming a Director in 1986.  That same year he became a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, in the subject of canine medicine.   Nick's main clinical interests are orthopaedic surgery and dentistry

He is also a keen fisherman.

Estelle has a keen interest in Dermatology and attended the World Veterinary Dermatology Congress in France in 2016.  She enjoys improving the lives of pets with chronic skin conditions.   She endeavours to give patients a positive experience using a gentle, calm approach in handling them.


In her spare time, Estelle fosters cats and volunteers for animal charities.  She has a much loved one-eyed dog named Stanley, 3 cats and 6 ex-battery hens whom she adores.

Franklin Vets 0182-500-136 Dr Paul Eason BVM&S MANZCVS (Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care)

Paul graduated in 1989 at Edinburgh and worked a variety of practices in the UK, before moving to New Zealand in 1997.  He is now a director of Franklin Vets (based at Pukekohe) where his main interests are in surgery, particularly orthopaedics, and he enjoys mucking about with lame dogs.  

Paul also holds Membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Surgery and Emergency Medicine and Critical Care.

Nikki received a BSc from Auckland University in 2000 and then went on to complete a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Massey university in 2005.  She enjoys feline medicine, dentistry and dermatology.

Nikki lives in Pukekohe with her family, which also includes two golden retrievers and a tortoiseshell cat.

Monica’s clinical interests involve canine medicine and management of trauma cases.  She enjoys the fast pace and diversity of case loads that being based in semi-rural Auckland offers.  
During Monica’s free time she can be found cleaning up after her enthusiastic rescue puppy, exploring coastal New Zealand or helping her family manage a team of sport horses. 

Dr Jamie Lange BSc BVSc 

Jamie gained a Bachelor of Science from University of Auckland in 2010 and a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Massey University in 2015.  He made the journey up from Palmerston North this year with his partner in crime, Pookie the cat, to join the team at Franklin Vets Pukekohe.  Jamie enjoys all aspects of companion animal medicine, in particular surgery and feline medicine.

Originally from Canada, Jamie has called New Zealand home since 2007.   In his free time, Jamie enjoys running, travelling and is known for being a movie enthusiast.

Dr Melissa McMiken BVSc 

Melissa graduated from Massey University in 2008 and worked in Auckland as a companion animal vet before moving to Pukekohe to work at Franklin Vets.  Her special interests include feline medicine and general surgery.

Melissa lives locally with her family, along with their red tabby who was rescued from the Palmerston North SPCA.  In her spare time she enjoys fishing and snowboarding.
