Companion Animal Services

Consistency of veterinarians is important to us, and while Te Kauwhata and Taupiri branches are run closely together to share after-hours and emergencies, our aim is to have one lead vet and a backup vet allocated to your farm, to ensure we have a good understanding of your business and your farming goals.  The North Waikato branches of Franklin Vets have seen rapid growth over the last few years but we have not forgotten that the service we provide, and relationships that we form with our clients, is the key to our ongoing success.

Franklin Vets provides a small animal consultation service at our Te Kauwhata clinic, provided by the fulltime companion animal vets from our Pukekohe clinic.  This consultation service is available by appointment, and has the back up of additional diagnostic, medical and surgical facilities at the main hospital in Pukekohe.  This Best Practice accredited hospital is fully equipped, and open 7 days.  We can organise transport of animals from Te Kauwhata clinic to Pukekohe for treatment and back again.  After hours emergency care for small animal patients for all Franklin Vets clinics, including Te Kauwhata, is provided by the Manukau After Hours Clinic, of which Franklin Vets is a shareholder.

This June, we celebrate five years of operation from our Te Kauwhata clinic. Franklin Vets Te Kauwhata started life in 2006 from a 3 x 5m Portacom building and a shipping container at the back of Carley’s truckyard. 
Staffed by myself and office manager Karen Elliott, operations began with just one commercial farm client.

Visitors were always welcome; however only two could fit in at a time around the store contents and seating was provided by a folded camp chair and a Rumensin® drum.  My lasting memory of the Portacom will be the temperature - it was always incredibly cold or incredibly hot with little in between.

In June 2007, we moved into a new building where we are currently located and opened the Taupiri clinic to service a rapidly growing clientele in the North Waikato.  Today we have a strong team of 6 vets across the two branches along with Jess, our technician; our trading manager Ross McDonald and 3 office managers, including Karen, who remains the mainstay of the Te Kauwhata clinic.
