Parvovirus Titre Testing for 6‑Month‑Old Puppies

Date: 9 Jan 2026

You may have recently received a reminder about parvovirus titre testing for your puppy. This simple blood test measures the level of protective antibodies against parvovirus, a serious and often fatal disease routinely vaccinated against in early puppyhood.

Not all puppies respond to vaccination in the same way. Some receive high levels of maternal antibodies, which can interfere with their ability to develop their own immunity. In these cases, a later booster may be needed.

A titre test performed around four weeks after the final puppy vaccination confirms whether your pup has developed adequate protection. If immunity is low, revaccination—sometimes with a different vaccine type—may be recommended, followed by repeat testing.

We encourage titre testing as a routine part of puppy care to ensure every pup has mounted a strong immune response to their initial vaccinations.

Please remember that even with a positive titre result, your dog still needs a full veterinary health check at least once a year to monitor overall wellbeing and detect any issues early.
