Feeding your neutered pets

Feeding your neutered pets

On average, neutered pets are between 2-3 times more likely to be overweight than 'non-neutered' or 'intact' pets.

  • Within 48 hours of the neutering procedure, the food your pet will voluntarily consume can increase by up to 20%.

  • Due to the hormonal changes and the impact on your pet’s metabolism post-neutering, neutered pets require 30% less calories per day on average.

We often get asked what is the best food to feed your neutered pet to combat these issues. We recommend the The ROYAL CANIN® Neutered diets, which are tailored to meet the reduced energy needs of neutered pets. They are formulated to help neutered pets feel full and have additional nutritional benefits to support pet health, depending on your pet’s species and size:

MODERATE CALORIE- Moderate calorie formulas tailored to meet the specific needs of neutered pets, with the addition of L-carnitine, to help maintain ideal bodyweight.

HIGH PROTEIN - High protein to help maintain lean muscle mass.

RING-SHAPED KIBBLE -Exclusive ring-shaped kibble to help slow down the consumption of food and avoid overfeeding (canine diets only).

S/O INDEX - The Neutered Small Dog and Neutered Feline diets are tailored to support urinary health in cats and dogs prone to urinary issues.
